Seventeenth International Conference on Design Principles & Practices

It was a pleasure to meet fellow designers and researchers from around the world while presenting my research at an international design conference in Lisbon.

As part of my PhD, I’m developing a new design tool to help designers integrate emotional design strategies into their work, initially focusing on the furniture design industry.

The tool takes the form of a vibrant, accessible deck of cards, designed to make exploring emotional design strategies simple, engaging and enjoyable, with bite-sized information presented in a clear, structured format.

Its development has been informed by extensive research, including interviews with designers and consumers, analysis of sales and trend data, and a review of existing literature.

Initial testing through student workshops has demonstrated the tool’s potential to encourage collaboration, stimulate creative thinking and help designers explore how emotional design strategies can be applied to create more engaging and meaningful designs.

The next stage involves a workshop with industry professionals to gather feedback and further develop the tool. Please get in touch through my website if you’re interested in participating.
