TheDesigner from CSD | Objects that stay | A conversation with Dan Lewis

11/3/20261 min read

I was recently interviewed by the Chartered Society of Designers for their TheDesigner Substack series, where I spoke about our emotional connections to the things we own, reflecting on my PhD research into Emotional Design.

We discussed why certain objects become meaningful to us, how furniture can hold memories and become part of our personal histories, and what this means for designers looking to create products that people value, care for and keep for longer.

The conversation also explored the development of my Emotional Design Deck, a practical tool designed to help creative practitioners explore emotional connections through the design process.

A really enjoyable opportunity to reflect on the research, share some of its findings and discuss how we might create more meaningful relationships between people and the things we design.
